Classic Simon is a memory-based game that’s great for increasing working memory, which in turn is important for developing self-control and the ability to delay gratification. The premise is simple: there are four coloured squares and the app will flash them in a specific sequence. All you have to do is remember this sequence and repeat it. Every time you’re successful, a new flashing square will be added to the end of it, making it harder to remember. It sounds simple, and it is at first, but as the sequences lengthen, it gets increasingly hard to remember and repeat the correct order. Correctly remembering any sequence over ten flashes in length is good, and over fifteen is excellent.

What Age Of Child Is It Aimed At? Classic Simon is suitable for most children over the age of 6, and is still fun to play as an adult.
What Does The App Involve? The app involves remembering the order of a quick sequence of coloured squares that are flashed, before repeating them back. You can choose to have tones accompanying the flashes (which does make it easier), and you can choose whether the squares are flashed slowly, medium, fast or very fast. Finally, you can choose to play the super mode, which instead of having four squares, has nine of them.
What I Like About This App: Classic Simon is a fun way to help your child improve their working memory, and despite being very simple, it’s highly addictive. This means your child will be happy to play it any time they have the opportunity. This is an app that I like to keep on my phone to give to a child when we are out and about and they’re in danger of becoming bored.
What Core Life Skills Will It Help Develop? This app is a great way to help your child improve their working memory, which is the key to developing self-control and the ability to delay gratification, which is one of the main keys to raising a child who will become a happy and successful adult.
