Picture Book: Odd Dog Out (2016)

Odd Dog Out CoverOdd Dog Out by Rob Biddulph is a brilliant, well-written, and wonderfully illustrated, book that’s not only a great read, but also helps children to realise that being different is okay. It tells the story of a dog who runs away because he/she feels she doesn’t fit in, only to find that fitting in isn’t about who you are surrounded by, but instead it’s about accepting who you are inside.

What Age Of Child Is It Aimed At? This book is aimed at children aged between three and seven.

How Long Will It Take To Read This Book? This book will only take a few minutes to read, but your child will most likely want it to be read several times in a row. Also, be prepared for them to spend time pouring over the excellent illustrations, spotting the differences between the various dogs.

What I Like About This Book? I like this book because it encourages children to accept who they are and not to feel like they don’t fit in just because they’re different from those around them. In addition, it encourages children to think about the differences between individuals in terms of how they dress, what they like to do and how they feel inside, and to accept these differences in themselves and in others.

What Core Life Skills Will It Help Develop? This book will encourage children to develop a positive self-image, as well as being more accepting of the differences between themselves and others.

Are There Other Books By The Same Author? Rob Biddulph has written a number of other books including Grrrrrrrrr, Blown Away and Sunk. You can find a list of these books here (for UK-based parents) or here (for US-based parents).
